“I bought the 10-pack so everyone in our family has one, with extras for our home and cars. Hopefully we never need them, but knowing we can filter freshwater during an emergency gives me real peace of mind.”

Product description

Drinkable water from almost any source, without power, without boiling

When the mains go down, water is the first thing a household runs short of. The AQUA-X1 is a hollow fibre filter straw you keep on a shelf until the day you need it. No batteries, no charging, no chemicals, no waiting for a kettle. You drink straight from the source, or filter into a bottle for the rest of the family.

Why households keep one per person

  • Up to 1500 litres per filter. That is years of drinking water for one person in an emergency, from a single unit.
  • 0.1 micron hollow fibre membrane. Mechanical filtration, so there is nothing to run out of and nothing to replace.
  • No power and no heat required. It works in a blackout, in a car, on a walk, and in a flooded street.
  • Weighs under 100 grams. Small enough for a coat pocket, a glovebox, a school bag or a bug-out bag.
  • Stores for years unopened. Buy it once, put it in the cupboard, forget about it until it matters.
  • Three ways to drink. Sip direct from the source, screw onto a standard bottle, or squeeze from the included reservoir.

What is in the box

  • AQUA-X1 filter straw
  • 1.5L collapsible hydration reservoir
  • Backflush syringe for cleaning the membrane
  • Extension drinking tube
  • Carabiner clip
  • Quick-start guide

  • 16 Emergency Plan Checklists (digital)

How it works

  1. Find water. A stream, a rain butt, a tap running brown, a puddle, a pond.
  2. Fill or dip. Fill the reservoir, or put the straw straight into the water.
  3. Draw. Your own suction pulls the water through the membrane.
  4. Drink. Clean water comes out the other end. Backflush with the syringe when the flow slows.

Three stages, one pass

  1. Pre-filter. Sediment, grit and visible debris are held back before they reach the membrane.
  2. Hollow fibre membrane. Thousands of 0.1 micron channels let water through and hold back anything larger.
  3. Carbon stage. Reduces odour, taste and organic residue, so the water is something you will actually drink.

What it is designed to hold back

  • Bacteria including E. coli, salmonella and cholera
  • Parasites and protozoa including giardia and cryptosporidium
  • Microplastics down to the membrane's pore size
  • Sediment, silt and sand
  • Cloudiness and visible particles
  • Organic matter that causes bad taste and smell

A mechanical filter of this type does not remove dissolved salt, heavy metals or viruses. It is built for the water you are realistically going to face in a European household emergency: a contaminated mains supply, a flooded street, standing water, a stream.

Specifications

Questions people ask

Is this better than boiling?
It is faster and it works when you have no power and no gas. Boiling kills organisms but leaves the sediment, the cloudiness and the taste. This removes those too, in one pass, with no fuel.

How long does one filter last?
Up to 1500 litres, which is roughly two litres a day for two years for one person.

How long can I store it?
Unopened and dry, five years or more. Once used, keep it from freezing and backflush it before storing.

How many does my household need?
One per person is the sensible baseline, because in an emergency people separate. Most families take the five pack for the house and keep spares in the cars.

Can children use it?
Yes. It takes an ordinary sip, no more effort than a thick milkshake straw. Supervise younger children the first time.

I live in a city. Is this relevant to me?
Cities are where mains supply fails hardest, because there is no well and no stream in the garden. Boil notices, burst mains, flooding and grid failures all end with the same problem.

How do I maintain it?
Backflush with the syringe when flow slows. That is the whole maintenance routine.

What if I want to return it?
60 days, no argument.

Real life stories from our customers

Saved Us During the Blackout

“When the power went out, our tap water quickly turned brown and we could no longer use it. The supermarkets nearby had already sold out of bottled water. Thankfully, I had two filters stored with our emergency supplies. We used them with water from our neighbour’s pool and had enough drinking water for our family until everything returned to normal. I was extremely relieved that I had prepared in advance.”

Marcus T.
Finally Stopped Procrastinating

“I had been telling myself for years that I would prepare an emergency kit eventually. Then our town issued a boil-water notice and we had almost nothing at home. My husband ended up heating water on the barbecue just so we could brush our teeth. I ordered the filters immediately afterwards. We now keep two at home and one in each car. We have not needed them yet, thankfully, but knowing they are available gives me real peace of mind.”

Jonathan K.
Our Backup When Everything Stopped

“During the winter blackout, we had no electricity for four days and the water pressure disappeared by the second day. Our pipes were frozen, so the filter I had stored in my truck became incredibly useful. We filtered melted snow and water from the hot-water tank. My children barely noticed how serious the situation had become. It is one of those purchases you hope you never need, but you are grateful to have when something goes wrong.”

FAQs

Got questions? We have answers.

Why do I need this when I can just boil water?

Boiling needs a heat source. In the emergencies this is built for, a blackout, a burst main, a flood, the gas and the power are usually the first things to go. The AQUA-X1 works with nothing but your own breath.

Boiling also only kills organisms. It leaves the sediment, the cloudiness and the taste behind. The four-stage cartridge takes those out in the same pass.

What does the filtration actually remove?

The 0.1 micron hollow fibre membrane removes 99.999999% of bacteria such as E. coli and salmonella, along with microplastics, sediment and cloudiness. The activated carbon stage takes out chlorine and the taste and smell that come with standing or treated water.

It is not designed for salt water or heavy chemical contamination. For those you need distillation or a dedicated purifier.

How long does one filter last?

Up to 1500 litres. For a single person drinking two litres a day that is well over two years of continuous use, so in a short emergency you are nowhere near the limit.

There is no cartridge to buy and no schedule to keep. When flow slows, backflush it with clean water and it recovers.

How many should I buy for my household?

One per person is the sensible baseline, because in a real emergency people are rarely all in the same place. Most households take the 5-Pack for the home and keep the spares in the cars and the go-bags.

I live in a flat in the city. Do I really need this?

City flats are the case this is built for, not the exception.

Mains pressure only carries water so far up on its own. In Berlin that is roughly 22 metres, about the roof height of an ordinary block. Everything above that runs on electric pressure booster pumps in the basement.

During the four-day power cut in Berlin in January 2026 the water kept flowing lower down, but from the sixth floor it was a trickle and from the seventh barely a drop. People living higher up carried water upstairs from neighbours in buckets.

If you live above the fifth floor, a blackout is a water problem for you before it is one for anyone else in the building.

Does it need power, batteries or chemicals?

None of the three. There is nothing to charge, nothing to replace and no tablets to add. It is a sealed mechanical filter, which is exactly why it still works when everything else has stopped.

How long can I store it unused?

Five years or more, unopened and dry. Once it has been used, keep it from freezing and backflush it before you put it away. Freezing is the one thing that damages a wet membrane.

Can children use it?

Yes. It takes an ordinary sip, about the effort of a thick milkshake through a straw. Supervise younger children the first time so they learn to breathe out through it to clear the line.

How quickly will it ship, and what if I want to return it?

Orders are processed within one working day and delivery across the EU usually takes 3 to 7 working days. Tracking is emailed as soon as the parcel leaves.

If it is not for you, send it back within 60 days for a full refund. No argument and no restocking fee.

I bought the 5-pack because one filter for an entire family did not feel like much of a plan. We now have one in every emergency backpack and a spare in the car. Hopefully we never need them, but I genuinely sleep better knowing we have another option if bottled water becomes unavailable.

Claire M.

My husband originally thought this was unnecessary. Then our neighbourhood had a water interruption and the large bottles disappeared from the supermarket within hours. We did not need the filter that day, but it made us realise how dependent we were. It now stays beside our first-aid kit and torches.

Ordered the 10-pack for our household, both cars and my parents. Giving two to my parents was probably the most important part for me. They cannot easily carry heavy packs of bottled water, and I wanted them to have something they could keep at home.

Originally bought it for emergencies but tested it on a hiking weekend using clear water from a flowing freshwater stream. It took slightly more suction than a normal straw, but the water came through crystal clear and without the earthy taste I expected. Very easy once you understand how it works.

Martin K.

We live in a small apartment and cannot store huge amounts of bottled water. This takes almost no space. We still keep bottled water because that is what we would use first, but now we have a backup if those bottles run out.

Bought the 5-pack for our family. Each person has one, and everyone knows where it is kept. The best part was actually sitting down with the children and discussing what we would do during a longer outage. We finally have a plan instead of just saying we should prepare someday.

Stefan H.

With all the discussions about energy security in Europe, I wanted to make our household a little less dependent. This does not solve every emergency, of course, but clean water is one of the first things a family needs. Small purchase, big peace of mind.

Julien A.

The filter itself works well and feels sturdier than expected. The first few pulls required more suction than I imagined, so there is a small learning curve. After the water started flowing it became much easier. I would recommend testing it before putting it into an emergency bag.

Hanna S.

We chose the 10-pack and divided it between our house and our daughter’s family. It is reassuring to know that both households have the same equipment and know how to use it. Nobody has to come looking for us if something happens.
