Do I need the AQUA-X1 as well?

Yes. The bag holds the water and feeds it through under gravity, the straw is what filters it. On its own this is a very good 6 litre water carrier, not a filter.

How long does a full bag take to run through?

Hang it as high as you can and leave it. Most of a full bag passes through while you get on with something else.

Can I fill it from a rain barrel or a stream?

Yes, that is exactly what it is for. The wide roll-top scoops from shallow water, and the filter deals with what comes in with it.

How far does 6 litres go?

About a day of drinking water for four people, or three days for one.

Does it pack away small?

Empty, it folds flat to roughly the size of a paperback and weighs next to nothing in a go-bag or a car boot.
